Facebook and the Internet Business

Having 8.2% of all display ads on the internet in the U.S. with more than 250M users, Facebook makes a brilliant move to drive traffic from one place on Facebook to another place, still on Facebook.

"Now that we have “Become a Fan” cost-per-click ads, it’s easier than ever to expand your fan base to a much greater size. With over 250MM users, we can target by various parameters to reach the right people that would want to fan the TechCrunch Page. Having 9,000 fans is a great start, but with the potential for 50,000 or even 500,000 fans, you can make your updates that much more effective." Techcrunch

Gimmy: "Will Obama's methodology work?"

It was announced earlier this week that Gamal Mubarak will contribute in an open discussion on Wednesday, August 12th, 2009 at 7pm with the young Egyptians (mostly teaching assistants and professor assistants. So far this sounds like a normal activity in the continuous series of activities of the son to get closer to the people. He has been doing this since earlier this year, it started with poor people in upper Egypt, now its approaching the younger educated generation.
The more interesting part this time, is the use of technology, actually the Obama's methodology to getting the younger and more educated part of the nation, whom actually took Obama at the end to the white house.
Gamal will be reachable at same time via this new website www.sharek.eg (its the first time for me to see this top level domain - .eg, was definitely kept for something important like this). People shall be able to interact with Gimmy via Facebook group/page too called Sharek, at the time of writing this post there are 2908 "Supporters".
That's quite a shift and new phase in Gamal's life, will Obama's methodology work, that's the question?

China's Web users top U.S. at 253 million

China's booming Internet population has surpassed the United States to become the world's biggest, with 253 million people online despite government controls on Web use, according to government data reported Friday. MSNBC
At the same time Google revealed that its index has reached ONE TRILLION unique URLs.
"The first Google index in 1998 already had 26 million pages, and by 2000 the Google index reached the one billion mark. Over the last eight years, we've seen a lot of big numbers about how much content is really out there. To keep up with this volume of information, our systems have come a long way since the first set of web data Google processed to answer queries. Back then, we did everything in batches: one workstation could compute the PageRank graph on 26 million pages in a couple of hours, and that set of pages would be used as Google's index for a fixed period of time. Today, Google downloads the web continuously, collecting updated page information and re-processing the entire web-link graph several times per day." Check here...
Wowww!!! The growth of the internet is unbelievable, the era is just about to start...

Power of the internet (2)

"The campaign’s new-media strategy, inspired by popular social networks like MySpace and Facebook, has revolutionized the use of the Web as a political tool, helping the candidate raise more than two million donations of less than $200 each and swiftly mobilize hundreds of thousands of supporters before various primaries."
“One of my fundamental beliefs from my days as a community organizer is that real change comes from the bottom up,” Mr. Obama said in a statement. “And there’s no more powerful tool for grass-roots organizing than the Internet.”
